Fragments of tranquility

At precisely 16:46 on a Friday, I feel compelled to reflect on the concept of tranquillity. This state of peace and calm is derived from the Latin word 'tranquillitas' and made its way into the English language in the 14th century through Old French 'tranquilité'.

It is essential for those with introverted tendencies to retreat and experience tranquillity amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life. The juxtaposition of vibrant social life, noise, and tranquillity is significant, particularly for the most extroverted individuals who often strive to advance swiftly in their pursuits.

Many individuals overlook the need to withdraw during chaotic times in their lives. A focused attention can yield health benefits in the face of continuous activity, which is crucial for a society in disarray. The surge of uncivilised incidents contributes to a cacophony of hyperactive noise that can disrupt our interpersonal communications. We all require a daily environment that nurtures our minds more peacefully and calms the unrest within us.

Savouring a cup of coffee in silence at a café, accompanied by a newspaper that refrains from alarmingly declaring the world is on the brink of disaster, encourages thoughtful engagement

Listening to Freda Payne's piece "Deeper and Deeper," while enjoying a small piece of occhio di bue and a cup of tea from a British teabox of the finest quality, stimulates the synapses and the cells.

A bike ride to the nearest beach, surrounded by a tidy natural landscape, provides a refreshing escape.

Logging off social media serves to shield oneself from the adverse effects of screen light on our vision.

Stretching on a yoga mat and expressing gratitude without feeling the need to externalise it for all, including angels and demons alike, fosters inner peace.

A gentle kiss and the feeling of another's breath can be profoundly connecting.

Mending the seam of a torn piece of fabric can be a simple yet rewarding endeavour.

Poetry about the essence of human experience.

Engaging in meditative, egalitarian cooking in the kitchen, with a hint of dance and smiles, brings joy to the mundane.

The fragrant allure of a Diptyque candle, reminiscent of the jazz club Orphéon, adorned with the name Genevrie, adds a decorative touch above the fireplace.

Tranquility, in its simplest form, devoid of excessive fuss and haste, exists harmoniously alongside passion and commitment, healing grievances, gives pleasure to our bodily rhythms.
